Client: “We’re looking for the ideal candidate.”
Me: “Really? Are you an ideal employer?”
Client: “Of course. We’re a market leader with over 100 years of history. We’ve developed countless life-changing medicines, we care about people development, diversity, and we believe in
a human-sized, sustainable ecosystem.”
And then... I wake up.
No way I’m falling back asleep.
Never mind, let’s write a philosophical post instead.
What is ideal, really?
Adjective:
- Satisfying one’s conception of what is perfect; most suitable
- Existing only in the imagination; desirable but unlikely to become reality
Noun:
- A person or thing regarded as perfect
So “ideal” is based on conception, imagination, perfection.
It’s a mental image, subjective, evolving, and rarely real.
That’s why no person or situation is truly ideal.
But there can be great matches: candidates and employers who align, who grow together, who create value together.
You can work towards an ideal, but you’ll never quite reach it and that’s okay. It’s the effort that drives progress.
So dear clients and prospects,
When I don't present you with the ideal candidate, it’s not because I’m being difficult.
It’s because I’m being realistic and I'm maybe also gently questioning:
- Your readiness to recruit in today’s market
- Your openness to expert guidance
- Your trust in me as a partner
If you’re looking for a freelance recruitment partner who’s honest, market-aware, and specialized in the healthcare sector...
Let’s talk. We might not be ideal for each other but we might be a great fit.
